Widow, 5-yr-old child found dead
A 32-year-old widow is suspected to have smothered her five-year-old daughter to death before hanging herself at her Tilak Nagar residence on Friday. A suicide note was also found in which she blamed her in-laws of harassment following which the Tilak Nagar police initiated the process of registering a case against them. The police is, meanwhile, awaiting the post-mortem reports from Rajawadi Hospital on the cause of death of the mother-daughter duo.
Indira Balasubramaniam Yadav, and her daughter Ponushakti lived in building number 87 of the Tilak Nagar Colony, along with her in-laws. “Her in-laws work as newspaper vendors and left the house at around 5 am. Both, mother and daughter were at home then. They returned in the afternoon and found the door bolted from the inside. After receiving no response despite knocking repeatedly, they opened the door using the keys kept with the neighbours and found the bodies,” said an officer from Tilak Nagar police station.
“We found a suicide note where she blamed the two of harassment. She claimed the two constantly subjected her and her daughter to humiliation and even deprived them of food at times. We will soon register a case of abetment of suicide against them. Indira will be booked posthumously for murder,” said additional CP (east region) Quaiser Khalid. “The woman’s husband had died in August last year,” added Mr Khalid.
DCP Mahesh Ghurye said, “Prima facie investigations point towards Indira having smothered the girl with a
pillow and then committed suicide by hanging herself by the ceiling,” he said.
