Woman jumps to death from bldg terrace
A 55-year-old woman from a well-to-do family in Borivali (east) committed suicide on Tuesday morning, just a fortnight after her daughter-in-law committed suicide and had blamed the former for mentally harassing her in her suicide note.
According to the Kasturba Marg police, the incident took place at around 10 am on Tuesday.
The deceased Ratna-mala Murlidhar Jad-hav jumped from the terrace of her 14-floor building in Mhada’s high-income group (HIG) colony near Devi Pada in Borivali (east).
“We have ruled out foul play. Our officials did not get any suicide note from the spot or from her residence. An accidental death report has been recorded in the case,” said senior police inspector, Bharat Worlikar.
Incidentally, on February 19, Ratnamala’s daughter-in-law Madhavi Pravin had taken the extreme step by hanging herself from the ceiling at their fifth floor residence in the building. Madhavi had written a suicide note, where she blamed Ratnamala for mentally harassing her.
Madhavi’s husband Pravin (30) is a lecturer in a college. The couple has a three-year-old son. Madhavi was a graduate and was trying to find a job. She was also planning to open a beauty parlour.
However, despite the suicide note, the police did not book Ratna-mala for abetting her suicide, as Madhavi’s parents did not corroborate their daughter’s allegation.
