Women molested in Malad, 2 arrested
A 23-year-old woman was molested in Malad (west) while walking back home in the early hours of Monday. Four men stalked the victim, passed lewd comments at her and one among them even hit her on the butt.
According to the Malad police, the incident took place at around 2.30 am near the New Era junction on SV Road, when the victim was with a male friend.
The victim, in her police statement, said one of the accused identified as Nilesh Thakkar (19) came from behind and hit her on the butt and said, “Your pant’s chain is open.”
The indecent remark led to a clash between the four accused and the victim’s friend.
However, as the miscreants outnumbered the victim and her friend easily, the duo decided to escape from the spot and later registered a FIR with the Malad police.
A case under Sections 354 (criminal force outraging modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the four accused.
While Thakkar was arrested, police is on the lookout for the other accused. The arrested accused is a delivery boy and was produced in a magistrate court and remanded to police custody till April 12.
In another incident on the night of April 6, a 30-year-old woman was molested near the Inorbit Mall traffic signal at around 7.45 pm, on seeing a Maruti WagonR , she signaled for a lift till Goregaon.
The 28-year-old driver stopped to offer a ride to the victim. However, he assumed that she was a sex worker and hugged her. The woman screamed for help and on hearing her cries, a few passersby caught the driver. He was later arrested by the Malad police on molestation charges and sent to judicial custody.
