Women protest gangrape by sending Patil bangles
The MNS has put moral pressure on state home minister R.R. Patil by sending thousands of bangles to his residences on Saturday. The women’s wing of MNS from across the state sent couriers containing bangles to his
official residence Chitrakut at Malbar Hill and to his hometown Tasgaon in the Satara district.
After the gangrape of a photojournalist in Mumbai, MNS chief Raj Thackeray slammed Mr Patil and said that the crime rate had increased during his tenure. Calling him the “courier service of agriculture minister and NCP supreme Sharad Pawar,” Mr Thackeray demanded the home minister’s resignation. He appealed to women across Maharashtra to send bangles to Mr Patil as a symbol of protest and said this would lead him to resign from his post.
Commenting on the tremendous response, MNS PRO Sachin More said, “Women from the city, Mira-Bhayander, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivali, Nashik, Aurangabad, Pune, Jalgaon and Dhule areas sent bangles to Mr Patil. Around 12,000 women sent countless bangles. Some of our party workers gathered at the Rajgad party office in Matunga and sent the collected bangles via speed post.”
