The first international and Indian stamp will be put up for display at the National Philatelic Exhibition or Inpex 2013 to be held later this month in Mumbai. The exhibition has been organised in Mumbai after a gap of 16 years.
“The last exhibition was held in Chennai in 2008. The national-level exhibition is held once in four years and moves to different cities of the country, which is why it is coming to Mumbai after a gap of 16 years,” announced Colonel K.C. Mishra, chief postmaster general, Maharas-htra Circle. The exhibition will be held at World Trade Centre between February 21 and 25.
Dirubhai Mehta, president of the Philatelic Society of India (PSI) added, “Penny Black stamp — the world’s first stamp — released way back in 1840 in Great Britain, and Scinde Dawk — the first Indian postal stamp — will be put up for display at the exhibition.”
Inpex 2013 will host one of the largest national exhibitions of over 800 frames of world-class stamp exhibits of Indian and world philately. On February 23, a drawing competition has also been organised for children.
Further, there are two auctions planned, wherein several philatelic items will go under the hammer, including Scinde Dawk.
This time visitors will not be disappointed as 25,000 sheets will be made available for personalised “My Stamps”. The personalised stamps will be based on floral themes. “In case all the 25,000 sheets get booked, we will immediately get fresh sheets printed at the India Security Press in Nashik,” added Col. Mishra.
“In another first at the exhibition, Inpex will release the Golden Post Mark as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi along with a special cover,” said Kapil Gogri from PSI.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
