Youth held for obscene calls
A 20-year-old youngster has landed behind bars for randomly calling on unknown numbers and using vulgar language. The accused, who hails from Gujarat, was arrested by the DB Marg police for allegedly harassing a south Mumbai-based housewife with obscene phone calls and text messages. The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammed Anis Moha-mmed Hanif Shaikh, a resident of Panpol village in the Anand district of Gujarat. He has studied up to Class 10 and was taking religious education in a madarsa located in Anand city.
According to the police, in the first week of March, a 32-year-old woman from a Grant Road-based Parsi family approached the DB Marg police and complained against an anonymous caller, who was mentally harassing her by using vulgar language and also sending obscene text messages. “Shaikh’s interrogation revealed that during holidays he would go to his village where his elder brother runs a mobile accessories shop. He would activate prepaid SIM cards with less talk time and would call on random mobile numbers. Whenever he came across a woman, he would start talking to them in vulgar language and also send them obscene texts,” said P.G. Sanas, API of DB Marg police station.
