Youth held for ramming into police official
A 25-year-old youth, who was driving under the influence of alcohol, rammed into a 57-year-old assistant sub-inspector late on Saturday night. While the official is said to be out of danger, the accused has been arrested.
According to the Chembur police, the incident took place at around 10.10 pm on Hemu Kalani Road in Chembur. The victim, Uttam Waghatkar, was returning home after work when his motorcycle was hit from the rear by a Toyota Innova, which was being driven by accused Prabhakar Ghogulkar.
Due to the impact, Mr Waghatkar was reportedly thrown off his motorcycle. He was rushed to a hospital and is said to be out of danger. According to passersby, instead of rushing the injured police official to a hospital, Ghogulkar escaped from the spot.
Ghogulkar, a resident of SRA colony in Bandra (east), was later traced and arrested. The police also learnt that Ghogulkar was driving under the influence of alcohol and has taken his blood samples.
He has been booked under Section 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life) of the IPC and under Section 185 (driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs) of the Motor Vehicle Act.
