Youth held for rape of mute, deaf girl
The Govandi police has arrested a 21-year-old boy for allegedly raping a minor deaf and mute girl over a period of four months and subsequently impregnating her. The crime came to light when doctors discovered that she was pregnant after being admitted for severe vomiting. The girl then narrated the incident through sign language with her teacher as an interpreter.
According to the Govandi police, both the victim and the accused live in the same area of Agarwadi in Govandi village and come from poor families. “The boy, Roshan Sharad Gadse, is a roadside florist and first lured the girl with a vada pav to his residence where he forced himself upon her. He knew the girl loved the snack and took her to his home every time his younger brother was away. This continued for four months,” said an officer from the Govandi police station.
On Monday, the girl complained of severe stomachache and began vomiting. Her mother then took her to the Shatabdi Hospital. “The doctor, after examination told the mother that her daughter is one-and-a-half months pregnant. The mother was shocked to learn this and brought the girl to the police station. We then summoned an interpreter for sign language and extracted information on the boy. He was arrested on Wednesday. The girl is currently hospitalised,” said senior PI B. Rane of Govandi police station. Gadse was charged with rape and remanded to police custody till September 10.
As per law, intercourse with a minor female, even though consensual, amounts to rape, which led to Gadse being arrested for the crime.
