Their music will play once more
There are the musical instruments that are popular today, and then there are those that time forgot.
The lute harpsichord, salpinx, barbiton, aulos, syrinx and lituus are just some of those. Fortunately, scientists and music aficionados have managed to revive the sounds these instruments produced with the use of special software. The lituus — a long, slender horn which sounded and was played much like a trumpet — was recreated in 2009. It was last used in the Middle Ages, and a Bach composition was believed to be the last piece ever played on the lituus. Another instrument favoured by Bach, the lute harpsichord, was revived in the 20th century.
