Guru’s divine nectar

If you visit any of the “spiritual centres” in India today, you will find these “shops” selling innovative and, at times, unrecognisable forms of yoga and Vedic sciences. I recently visited one such place and was amazed to read the promises made on the boards that hung outside.

The streets were filled with aspirants from all over the world who were eager to learn the ancient Vedic sciences and it was pitiable to see what we had to offer to them in return.
The place I visited was the tapobhoomi of some great yogis and rishis, and their ashrams are still there. Right outside one such ashram there was a huge garbage dump where stray animals were feeding on plastic and toxins, saffron-clad men sat at the side of the road and struck deals with the tourists for a spiritual experience. If those evolved souls were to visit their own ashrams today, they sure would be relieved that they left long back...
At the Maha Kumbh underway at Prayag, another spiritual centre where drops of the divine nectar spilled as Lord Vishnu, in his Mohini avatar, ceased the pitcher (kumbh) from the asurs, tens of thousands of devotees pour in everyday to take a dip in the Ganges. The Ganga, we all know, is fast receding. And now there have been fires at the Maha Kumbh venue that have
led to injuries of those who went there in the hope of accessing the divinity of the place. Clearly something is amiss.
Prayag and other spiritual places are doubtlessly centres of stupendous energy, energy generated by the heat of penance of tapasvis and sadhus (the genuine ones). But to access this energy one has to first undergo some basic purifications through practices of yoga and Sanatan Kriya. During Samudra Manthan, before the emergence of the divine nectar, vish oozed out which was held by Lord Shiva in his throat so that the myriad siddhis could be accessed by the devas and asurs. The process of Samudra Manthan goes on in every individual, and to access the nectar one needs a Guru who can initiate the process of transformation by dissolving the impurities so that you may access the Ultimate.
Till that happens, you keep searching at different “shops” and places.

Yogi Ashwini, the guiding light of Dhyan Foundation, is an authority on yoga, tantra and the Vedic sciences. His recent book is Sanatan Kriya: 51 Miracles... And a Haunting.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
