$319K for Marilyn’s pink gown

The strapless pink gown that Marilyn Monroe wore while performing the popular Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend has fetched a staggering $319,000 at an auction here.
The gown, with an estimate of $150,000-$250,000, along with over 1,500 of Hollywood’s most iconic collectibles was one the most notable sale at the Profiles in History’s Three Million Dollar Hollywood Auction 40 here.
The satin gown was worn by Monroe as the gold-digging “Lorelei Lee” in one of cinema’s most memorable song and dance sequences as she performed the Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend sequence in 1953 film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Monroe’s public appearance dress worn at President John F. Kennedy’s birthday tribute sold at an auction in 1999 for an astounding $1,267,500.
This remains as the single most important screen-worn gown in film history to ever reach the auction block.
