Big B is best actor for Paa, 3 Idiots most popular film
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan won his fourth national award as best actor for his brilliant portrayal of the extraordinary character Auro in Paa, which was also named best Hindi film and won awards for best supporting actress (Arundhati Nag) and best makeup (Christein Tinsley and Dominie Till). Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots, meanwhile, won the best popular film award and also for best lyrics (Swanand Kirkere).
But the real hit in the 57th national film awards, announced Wednesday evening, was the Malayalam film Kutty Srank, which won five prizes in all — for best feature film, cinematography, screenplay, costume and a special jury award. It shared the last with Hindi blockbuster Kaminey and the Malayalam film Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja.
Rituparno Ghosh was named best director for Abohoman, which also got the award for best Bengali film, as well as best actress (Ananya Chatterjee) and best editing (Arghyakamal Mitra). Raykesh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi 6, shot in the bylanes of Old Delhi, won the Nargis Dutt award for best feature film on national integration, while Shyam Benegal’s Well Done Abba was named the best film on social issues.
