Big B stable, to be home in 2-3 days
Actor Amitabh Bachchan, who underwent an abdominal surgery at the Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri on Saturday morning, is “stable and now resting”, doctors said.
Bachchan (69) was admitted to the hospital late on Friday night, and was operated on at around 9.30 am on Saturday.
Hospital representative Dr Asthana said, “All vital parameters of Bachchan are normal. He was cheerful when wheeled into the operation theatre and before going for the operation, he even visited a temple in the hospital premises,” he said. A hospital spokesperson informed that Bachchan underwent two back-to-back surgeries for his abdominal problems. “He is responding well to subsequent medication and will be in the hospital for two to three days before being discharged,” the spokesperson said.
Speaking to reporters a short while after the surgery, Bachchan’s actor son Abhishek, said, “Dad is out of the operation theatre and has been shifted to the ward. It was successful, and he is currently under observation.”
Bachchan himself thanked his friends and well-wishers shortly before his surgery. “I wish to thank all those that have most graciously sent in their concern and greetings for a speedy recovery. Your prayers shall go a long way in bringing me back to normal and for this, I am always eternally grateful,” he wrote on his blog.
The actor was suffering from abdominal problems ever since he sustained a near fatal injury on the sets of the 1982 film Coolie. He was injured while shooting a fight sequence with co-star Puneet Issar and was hospitalised at the time. In an earlier online post, Bachchan referred to his ailments as a “legacy of the past”, saying that he should learn to bear it.
