Bryan Adams’ Delhi concert cancelled
Canadian singer Bryan Adams was denied the chance to rock Delhi. However, to cheer up the disappointed fans, the organisers are now claiming that Tuesday’s concert is likely to be rescheduled for Sunday in Gurgaon. The event, which was to take place on Tuesday in Delhi, was cancelled as police and fire officials refused to grant a no objection certificate (NOC) due to security concerns. Meanwhile, over 10,000 tickets were already sold.
Organisers of the Micromax Bryan Adams Live in Concert India Tour, while speaking to the media on Tuesday morning stated that “they are disappointed for the cancellation of the show.” However, they added that efforts are going on to reschedule the concert. Later in the day, the event management officials pointed out that Adams is likely to perform at a Gurgaon location. “However, the location of the show in Gurgaon is yet to be finalised,” said an official.
“Netsurf Entertainment is working towards finalising an alternative venue and date to reschedule the Bryan Adams concert since public safety is a priority,” a spokesperson on behalf of the organisers, said in a statement through an SMS on Monday.
The Bryan Adams concert in the capital was to be held at the NSIC exhibition grounds in south Delhi’s Okhla industrial area. The unexpected rains coupled with excessive sale of tickets over the ground’s capacity apparently led to the denial of NOC. “The unexpected heavy rains in the city have made the venue very unsafe. Due to the success of prior shows in Pune, Mumbai and Begaluru, the police anticipated a huge crowd outside the venue,” said the statement. The organisers have so far stated that the five-city tour shall continue as scheduled in other cities. “Bryan is keen to perform in New Delhi and does not want to disappoint his fans. He will perform in Hyderabad on Wednesday where all formalities have been undertaken,” said the officials.
Bryan Adams, who is a rocker, song writer, guitarist, bassist, producer, and a part-time photographer, has won dozens of awards and 15 Grammy nominations. He is known for hits like Summer of 69, 18 Till I Die, Every Thing I do and Please Forgive Me.
The police was not satisfied with the arrangements in Delhi and did not give a green light for the show.
“We have denied permission for the concert because of security concerns. The place chosen to organise the concert is not suitable for this kind of a programme,” a senior police official said.
