Chitty Chitty Bang Bang set for more adventures
Fictional flying car Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is getting a modern makeover. Superspy James Bond’s creator Ian Fleming, who is better known for his espionage thrillers, wrote the children’s classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which was immortalised in a Hollywood film of the same name. Fleming’s estate, which has been actively commissioning new books on fictional MI6 spy, has decided to create more adventures for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang too.
The Fleming estate has been active in getting modern stories created for Fleming’s characters since the centenary of the British author’s birth on May 28, 2008. British novelist Sebastian Faulks wrote a new adventure for Agent 007 in Devil May Care and this year American thriller writer Jeffery Deaver will publish James Bond’s spy chronicles in form of Project X. British children’s author and scriptwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce will pen a new series of adventures for the flying car and the first book, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again, will be published in November. The new books will be illustrated with black-and-white line drawings by the illustrator and animator Joe Berger.
“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is thrilled to have Frank Cottrell Boyce, with his humour, his genius and his spanner, sparking her plugs, polishing her chrome and buffing up her bumpers. Her graceful wings are poised to take off on a new flight, with Frank’s skilful but possibly oily hands on the steering wheel,” Lucy Fleming, Ian Fleming’s niece, said. Fleming had made up Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car as a bedtime story for his young son, Caspar.
