Elton John calls Queen ‘mean, old’
He is a knight of the British Order but pop icon Elton John took aim at Queen Elizabeth II on the comedy show Saturday Night Live, labelling her a “mean old” woman. The Candle In The Wind hitmaker went all out while hosting the show and the skit about the royal family is sure to raise eyebrows, reported MTV online.
In a no-holds-barred sketch, he played himself as he spoke to the royal family about playing at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. While the Queen and Prince Phillip spoke reservedly and politely when William was in the room, the moment he stepped out they turned on a strong East London accent as they became loud, obnoxious and rude. “Unlike you, we haven’t forgotten where we came from,” said Prince Phillip, played by Bill Hader.
The Queen, played by Fred Armisen, said, “We know you play at everything we do, but don’t think you can half-ass it.” “Careful, you freaks!” shouted back John and the Queen then added, “You know when I see a Candle in the Wind? When I light my farts.”
Elton then stormed off calling her a “mean old woman”. The appearance on the show is all the more surprising as he recently revealed that he and partner David Furnish have been invited to the royal wedding this month.

1,000 boats to celebrate Queen reign
AGE CORRESPONDENT
LONDON
BRITAIN WILL mark diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation with a pageant on the River Thames in June 2012, it was announced on Tuesday.
The 84-year-old queen will lead a flotilla of 1,000 vessels and will lead the fleet made up of boats from the UK, Commonwealth countries, including India, and the other countries.
More than a million people are expected witness the celebrations on Sunday, June 3 2012, along the banks of the Thames which will include music, daytime fireworks and special effects. The organising committee of the four-day celebrations next year has written to all Commonwealth nations, including India, to send a vessel for the diamond jubilee flotilla, which is expected to measure 7.5-mile long from end to end.
The flotilla will comprise a diverse mix of the historic and the modern: from rowed boats to sailing ships, steamers to wooden launches and larger motorised craft. The flotilla specifically aims to capture the diversity of Britain and the Commonwealth’s proud maritime history, the organisers, Thames Diamond Jubilee Foundation chaired by Lord Salisbury, said on Tuesday. “Letters have today been sent to the high commissioners of every Commonwealth country — and to the Lord Lieutenants of every county in the UK inviting each to send a vessel for the flotilla.”
