Elvis Presley bible auctioned for $94,000
A bible which once belonged to Elvis Presley and contains annotations by the Rock ’n’ Roll king has sold for $94,000 at an auction. The 1,600 page book was given to the singer by his Uncle Vester and Aunt Clettes for his first Christmas at his Graceland home in 1957, reported BBC. A pair of the singer’s unwashed pants also on sale at the Omega Auctions in Stockport were not sold as bids failed to reach the reserve price.
The bible was among more than 100 lots of Elvis memorabilia on sale, including a movie contract signed by Presley for the 1962 film, Follow That Dream, and a pair of shoes made for the singer by Black Flagg Brothers. The bible was sold on behalf of a British Presley collector who is selling a quarter of his collection.

‘Vitamin A intake could cure cancer’
London: Intake of vitamin A in diet could help treat several forms of cancer due to its ability to control the malignant cells, a new study has found. Scientists have hailed the discovery as a “new dawn” in cancer treatment after finding a link between malignant cells and lack of vitamin A.
Experts at the University of York found that cancer cells are under control of a derivative of the vitamin, known as retinoic acid, the Daily Express reported.
They believe that vitamin A can be used as new anti-cancer treatment and advised people to ensure they include adequate levels of the nutrient in their diets.
The study was carried out on prostate cancer cells but Professor Norman Maitland of Yorkshire Cancer Research believes the treatment could apply to other cancers as well. “This may apply to a number of other cancers,” said Maitland. — PTI
