‘Godfather of go-go’ chuck brown dies
Chuck Brown, known as the “Godfather of Go-Go” for the subgenre of funk music he helped create, died on Wednesday at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore. He was suffering from pneumonia and was admitted there earlier in May,
A spokeswoman for the hospital confirmed the death but could not provide a cause, and Brown’s manager, Tom Goldfogle, was not immediately available to comment. Goldfogle told the Washington Post that Brown died of complications from sepsis.
Brown, a singer, songwriter and guitarist, had been a key personality in the Washington D.C. area since the 1970s when he perfected a funky sound that became known as “go-go.”

‘Raising good cholesterol not good for heart’
London: The belief that raising high-density lipoprotein, the so-called good cholesterol, helps lower your risks of heart attack may be a myth, claims a new study led by an Indian-origin scientist.
The new study, which is an analysis of 20 past studies involving nearly 21,000 heart attack cases, found that though keeping low-density lipoprotein (also known as bad cholesterol) under check is good for the heart, raising levels of HDL may not have any impact on one’s heart disease risk.
The study, published in The Lancet, showed that people with a genetically-programmed tendency for higher HDL cholesterol concentrations didn’t have a lower susceptibility to heart attack. “These results show that some ways of raising HDL cholesterol might not reduce risk of myocardial infarction in human bei-ngs,” said lead study auth-or Sekar Kathiresan. — PTI
