Hilton plea saves her from prison

Just a few years ago, Paris Hilton claimed her lawless days were behind her after she served 23 days in jail for violating probation.
These days, however, it’s unclear exactly what the celebrity socialite learned from her time behind bars.
Hilton, whose partying brought her worldwide notoriety, acknowledged in a court appearance on Monday that she stashed cocaine in her purse and lied to the police during her arrest in August at a Las Vegas resort. Under the terms of a plea deal, the 29-year-old Hilton pleaded guilty to drug possession and obstructing an officer, both misdemeanours.
She must serve a year of probation, complete a drug programme, pay a $2,000 fine and serve 200 hours of community service. If she violates her probation, she could get a year in jail.
“Treat this very seriously,” Justice of the Peace Joe M. Bonaventure cautioned Hilton. “The Clark County Detention Centre is not the Waldorf-Astoria.”
Hilton’s attorney David Chesnoff said she would attend an outpatient substance abuse treatment programme. “I know Hilton is contrite and accepts the responsibility for her actions,” Chesnoff said.

Gunshot fire scares Ramsay and Beckham
London: Gordon Ramsay and David Beckham, who had packed tents and headed out into the sticks near Los Angeles for a bit of bonding with their nippers, left the venue when they heard gunshots early in the morning and ended up in a hotel.
“We woke up at 4.30 am to gunfire. There were tents about half a mile away on the side of this ravine, with these Mexicans shooting. We don’t know what, we just heard the bangs,” thesun.co.uk quoted Gordon as saying.
“We packed up and checked into the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego,” Ramsay told Radio 1. Beckham was back in his comfort zone this weekend when he and wife Victoria went to watch son Brooklyn play Footie in an Los Angeles park. —IANS

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
