John Galliano sacked from his own label
After being dumped by Christian Dior over anti-Semitic remarks, designer John Galliano has now been sacked from his own label.
The board at John Galliano, 91 per cent owned by Christian Dior SA, handed the job over to the label’s in-house fashion team but claims it has no plans to sell the brand, Women’s Wear Daily reported.
Galliano, who was the chief designer at the French fashion house, has suffered a series of setbacks following his drunken racist attack against a Jewish couple in a Paris bar.
The 50-year-old was arrested in February and is due to stand trial in Paris in June on charges of “public insults based on the origin, religious affiliation, race or ethnicity” against three people. He faces up to six months in prison despite issuing a public apology.
“Anti-Semitism and racism have no part in our society. I unreservedly apologise for my behaviour in causing any offence,” Galliano had said. —PTI
