Plea against Dhobi Ghat in high court

NEW DELHI
Actor Aamir Khan’s wife Kiran Rao will have to take a legal recourse over the title of her directorial debut film Dhobi Ghat, which was premiered at the Toronto international film festival in September third week.
Claiming that the film title is a sign of trying to create caste division in the dhobi community, Hindustan Kanojia Organisation of Dhobis chairman Vinod Kumar Kanojia has approached the Delhi high court demanding a change of title before its release in theatres later in 2009 or early 2010.
Mr Kanojia also requested the censor board to review the film’s title in the light of an attempt to draw caste lines so that it does not encourage caste division in the society.
“The film could have been given some other name. It has been given the name to hurt the feelings of the community, which is highly condemned,” Kanojia said in his petition.
The petition further claimed calling any community by its name is a punishable offence.
