Low cost line, dancing models close Day 4
Fashion became just a little less dear on the evening of Day 4 of the Lakme Fashion Week. Pradeep and Neha Hirani’s Karmik show on Monday evening saw some of India’s leading couturiers come together on one platform, and present a collection that will now be available to the discerning buyer at an average price point of Rs 5,000.
From Rohit Bal, J.J. Valaya, Rina Dhaka, Neeta Lulla, Rocky S, Shantanu and Nikhil, Ranna Gill and Falguni and Shane Peacock, the designers gave a tiny glimpse of what their work under the Karmik label will be like.
So while Valaya and Bal’s creations included voluminous monochromatic anarkalis, Ranna Gill presented more Western silhouettes with a splash of colours standing out against stark black. “This will help us reach out to a wider market than before,” said Rina Dhaka before the show began.
Someone who certainly would be reaching out to a much larger audience with his latest collection was Narendra Kumar, whose late night show put the fun back in fashion. As the designer in a bright yellow jacket acted as the DJ (with his mp3 player as his “turntable”) for the evening, models danced along the ramp to the beats of the song that has inspired his collection — Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger. Fitted, structured jackets in bright, peppy hues, with lovely detailing on the collars, lapels and breast pockets formed the mainstay of the collection, with shirts in solid colours and slim-fitted trousers and chinos teamed underneath. A few striking womenswear designs also made an appearance: A black halter neck jumpsuit, and another strapless one in black.
