Macca: We had pennies thrown at us

Music legend Paul McCartney says that the Beatles, during their initial days, played some “miserable” shows and even had pennies thrown at them by a group of “unruly youth”.
“There were dreadful gigs that were memorable,” Contactmusic quoted McCartney as saying.
“We played a little village near Stroud once, but not a lot of people turned up. A few unruly youth threw pennies at us, so that was kinda miserable, except at the end we decided to pick up the pennies and pocket them, which stopped that practice fairly quickly,” he added. Notwithstanding their humble beginning, Beatles, which also comprised Ringo Starr, late John Lennon and George Harrison went on to bec-ome one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts of all time. McCartney, who started his solo career when the group after years of unparalleled success and popularity eventually broke up in 1970, still enjoys touring. The singer also credits his long stint as a solo tourer to the enthusiasm of his fans.

Minogue’s Merc to be auctioned
London: A black Mercedes-Benz given to singer Kylie Minogue by her sister Dannii will be auctioned here in July and the proceeds will be donated to charity.
The SLK230, which was bought by Dannii, and subsequently passed onto her sister, is to be sold by Bonhams auction house as part of its annual Goodwood Festival of Speed sale on July 2.
The celebrated Australian sisters have been the car’s only two owners. The auction house said the car, with a pre-sale estimate of £8,000-12,000, is in fabulous condition having covered just 19,000 miles.
“The Mercedes-Benz has all the right ingredients — good colour, low mileage and a fantastic provenance. Kylie and Dannii have a tremendous and far-reaching fan base and I can see it appealing to many people who want the same experience that they both shared,” James Knight, head of Bonhams motoring department, said in a statement. —PTI

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
