The First Ladies’ of three countries — America’s Michelle Obama, France’s Carla Bruni and Britain’s Samantha Cameron have all made it to the Vanity Fair magazine’s “International Best-Dressed List for 2010”.
While Michelle has appeared on the list four times and Carla Bruni made it for the third year in a row, Britain’s youngest PM David Cameron’s 39-year-old wife is said to be the first pregnant wife of a top leader to be on the list.
The leading magazine, which has been running the list for 39 years, has praised Samantha’s wardrobes full of brooches, bib necklaces and the labels Phillip Lim and Erdem and described her style as “realpolitik”.
Amy Fine Collins, who compiled the list, was quoted by the media as saying, “People who make the list are individuals. They don’t look like everyone else. They tend to be fashion leaders, not followers.
“Michelle Obama plays a very important role in fashion right now. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has a sexier, sultrier look. And Samantha Cameron is the first visibly pregnant First Lady we’ve had on the list.”
Forty-six-year-old Michelle, who has often been compared to Jacqueline Kennedy due to her sense of style, appeared on the cover and in a photo spread in March 2009 issue of Vogue.
Likewise, 42-year-old former Italian supermodel-turned singer Bruni, who got married to President Nicolas Sarkozy in February 2008, is often called the “First Lady of Fashion” for her sartorial sense.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
