‘My mom would have been proud of me’

Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil may have been arch rivals, who were pitted against each other in Arth and who vied for the same arty roles in the ‘80s but the late Smita Patil’s son Prateik is very fond of his “maasi”, Shabana Azmi. The reclusive actor has pledged his support for Shabana’s NGO, Mijwan Welfare Society that works for the empowerment of the girl child.
An emotional Prateik says, “My mom really believed in causes akin to this. She would be really proud of me. I am absolutely honoured and privileged to be a part of this movement. I will be there whenever Shabana maasi needs me.”
The actor, who will soon slip into his sports shoes to run for the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on January 15, is also waiting with bated breath for his next release Ekk Diwaana Tha, opposite rumoured girlfriend Amy Jackson.
