Neil Diamond gets Walk of Fame honour

Veteran crooner Neil Diamond has been honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The 71-year-old Sweet Caroline hitmaker received the 2,475th plaque in celebration of the 40th anniversary of his groundbreaking Hot August Night live album.
Diamond was joined by wife Katie McNeil, who he married in April, as he posed by the star in front of the Capitol Records Building here, reported MTV online. “This is probably the most fun. I didn’t have to campaign for it. They wanted me. They opened their arms and took me in, and that makes it all the better,” Diamond said.

‘Autism: faulty gene causes brain changes’
Washington: Scientists have discovered how a defective gene in autistic people triggers brain changes that lead to behavioural disorders. Resear-chers from the University of California — Davis Health System Institute found that a defective gene called “pten” reduces energy production in neurons leading to brain changes which cause antisocial and prolonged repetitive beh-aviour — traits found in autism. Previous research has shown that the gene is defective in children with autism, but its effect on neurons in the brain was not known. The new study shows that abnormal action of just this one gene disrupted energy use in neurons. — PTI
