New species of cave-dwelling scorpions found
Two new species of cave-dwelling short-tailed whip scorpions have been discovered in north-eastern Brazil.
The reddish-brown short-tailed whip scorpions inhabit cool, humid limestone caves in an otherwise arid region. Both the new species, Rowlandius ubajara and Rowlandius potiguara, were found deep within the limestone caves, which are also home to bats. Bat guano and seed deposits harbour springtails and other small insects which are likely to serve as prey to these arachnids, according to researcher Adalberto Santos, from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil) and colleagues.
Both species were found only within the caves but there is little indication that they have adapted exclusively to life in darkness.

Duncan’s grave vandalised with racist image
Los Angeles: Armageddon actor Michael Clarke Duncan’s grave has been vandalised with a racist caricature image of a black face on the centre of the tomb. A representative of the family told TMZ Online that a family friend went to Forest Lawn Cemetery in the Hollywood Hills to deliver some flowers.
However, she was shocked seeing a cartoon image of a black face was painted on the centre of the tomb. The family filed a report to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The case is being investigated as a hate crime. Forest Lawn Cemetery immediately removed the alleged racist image after being notified of the issue.
Duncan was rushed to hospital on July 13 after experiencing a heart attack. The actor had a brain damage due to the lack of oxygen during the attack.
