New themes colour newbie lines

The second day of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2012 started with a bunch of young talented designers under the umbrella show called “Hi5”. With different themes and colours, the new breed of designers gave their best shot and announced their arrival in the fashion fraternity.
Among the five newcomers, designer Shantanu Singh with his label The Next Episode deserves a mention as he crafted out some really interesting outfits. With global warming and endangered penguins as his central theme, the designer used Naka-tiki bead work (a technique where beads are carefully stitched over pipes) in his black and grey ensembles. He also created structured dresses with multiple layering and intricate chord patterns.
Next was designer Chandrani Singh Fllora celebrating jewelled tones on the ramp with her flowy gowns and skirts in her A\W 12 collection called Sapphire.
The showstopper for Chandrani was TV actor Pooja Mishra, who walked the ramp in a bright crimson sari studded with blue gemstones. After this bright splash, next in row were designer duo Isha and Kartikeya with their label Dozakh. The designers painted a beautiful picture of Prague, their central theme, and took the audience to the ancient streets of the European city through their vintage-inspired hues and silhouettes.
As the day proceeded, designer Kanika Saluja Choudhry added the much-needed “fun” element and presented her collection Anaikka, which was high on glam and stood out loud amidst the various mood swings.
While some people prefer the quite route, this designer was nowhere in the mood to slow down.
She made a bold statement with leather, metallic embellishments, zippers and gold sequins in her razor-sharp cut jackets and evening dresses.
The showstopper actor Chitrangada Singh walked for this daring designer in a blue body-hugging gown with gold detailing and a stylish tiara.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
