Nigella, Saatchi granted decree nisi, final papers in
British celebrity television chef Nigella Lawson and contemporary art collector and ad guru Charles Saatchi were on Wednesday granted a decree nisi. The couple, who had married 10 years ago, is now closer to a final divorce.
In UK, decree nisi is granted when the court is satisfied that the petitioner is entitled to a divorce. It is provisional and does not end the marriage. The decree allows the petitioner to apply for decree absolute after a period of six weeks and one day to dissolve the marriage. The compulsory delay of six weeks and one day has been kept to allow time for any objection to be put forward as to why the divorce should not proceed.
The decree nisi was granted in a hearing at London high court by district judge Anne Aitken, but the couple did not attend the hearing. The couple had earlier confirmed they would not make any financial claims against the other. “A divorce will proceed on the undefended basis, the decree nisi is to be pronounced on 31 July, and neither party will be making any financial claims against the other,” they had said.
