‘Pollen-free flowers help cut hay fever risk’
Scientists have created pollen-free flowers that can last longer and could help allergy sufferers cut down the risk of catching hay fever.
The plants with more vibrantly-coloured “super-geranium” flowers do not produce pollens that cause sneezing, sniffing and itchy eyes of hay fever. The flowers which are prettier than usual, however, still require to be watered, the Daily Mail reported.
Geraniums have been cultivated in Europe since the 17th century and are one of the most popular garden and house plants around the world, with conventional breeding techniques used to create a range of different flower colours, shapes and scents.

Oscars change best original song rules
Los Angeles: There will be more songs vying for Oscars at 2013 Academy Awards.
The motion picture academy said on Thursday that there will be a minimum of five nominees in the original song category at 2013 ceremony.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said that the five nominated songs receiving the highest number of votes from music branch members will be up for the final award.
The voting process previously only allowed songs that earned an average score to be nominated. Only two songs were nominated for the trophy earlier in 2012 for the first time in Oscar history, with Man or Muppet from The Muppets winning the prize. The 85th annual Academy Awards will be presented on February 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. — AP
