Queen makes william knight of the thistle

who is second in line to the British throne, was on Thursday installed as a knight of the Thistle, which represents the highest honour of chivalry in Scotland, during a special service at the St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh.

30-year-old William is a search and rescue operational captain in the Royal Air Force.
William, whose title in Scotland is the Earl of Strathearn, was installed as a knight of the Thistle by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in presence of his wife, Catherine, the Countess of Strathearn, his aunt Anne, the Princess Royal, and his grandfather, Prince Philip. The royals attended a lunch after the ceremony at the cathedral as guests of the Knights of the Thistle. The honour is second only to the Order of Garter in the UK. In 2008, William was made a Royal Knight of the Garter by his grandmother.
