Rare monkey rediscovered in Borneo

An endangered monkey known as the Miller’s Grizzled Langur has been discovered on the island of Borneo in an area it was not previously known to inhabit, international researchers said on Friday.
Little is known about the monkey, known formally as Presbytis hosei canicrus, but it is listed as endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature due to massive habitat loss from fires, hunting, agriculture and mine development. It was believed to live only in the jungle in the northeast part of Borneo, which neighbours Indonesia’s Java Island.
But a recent expedition of scientists who set up cameras in remote parts of a largely undisturbed rainforest further west on Borneo, the Wehea Forest in East Kalimantan, captured images of what appears to be the monkeys.

Female nude Bacon may fetch $28m at Christie’s
London: A female nude painted by Francis Bacon in 1963 will lead Christie’s London auction of post-war and contemporary art on February 14, where it is expectedto fetch around £18 million ($28 million). Portrait of Henrietta Moraes depicts Bacon’s friend and former lover of Lucian Freud in a large, vibrant work which Francis Outred, head of post-war and contemporary art in Europe, called “one of the most seductive and sexually charged paintingsI have ever encountered by Bacon”.
Bacon’s depictions of “bon vivant” and London socialite Moraes were his first to seriously consider the female form, although he is most often associated with the male nude. Art critic David Sylvester once said, “Bacon’s lack of personal erotic interest in naked females did nothing to preventthese paintings from being as passionate as those of the malebodies that obsessed him.” — Reuters

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
