UK Indian actor goes missing, search on
Britain’s top actors joined Scotland Yard in issuing an appeal for information about British actor of Indian origin, 53-year-old Paul Bhattacharjee, who has been missing from London since July 10.
Bhattacharjee, who acted in Bond film Casino Royale, also worked on the stage in television series like Eastenders and Spooks. His other film credits include Dirty Pretty Things and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
Bhattacharjee, who also uses the name Gautam Paul Bhattacharjee, was last seen at 18.16 pm on July 10 as he left the Royal Court Theatre at Sloane Square in London, where he was appearing in a stage production. He was captured on CCTV footage walking from the stage door area of the theatre up an external alleyway and turned left as if walking towards Sloane Square Tube station. He texted his girlfriend at approximately 9 pm and that was the last of anyone has heard of him, the police said. British actor-writer Stephen Fry, who has about 6 million followers on Twitter, issued an appeal for his whereabouts. Actors Meera Syal and Kulvinder Ghir, who have worked with Bhattacharjee, also issued appeal for information. His son Rahul Bhattacharjee-Prashar issued an emotional appeal. “Dad, wherever you are please, please get in contact. We want to know that you are okay and if anyone has seen or heard from him in the last few days please get in contact. Please, we are just worried sick.”
Bhattacharjee-Prashar, who lives in Earslfield, said his father’s disappearance was “completely out of character. He was doing well in his career and everything seemed to be going okay. I just don’t know what has happened.”
Bhattacharjee was working with a company of 14 actors at the Royal Court performing in the Weekly Rep series, which consists of six plays staged in six weeks. He had already appeared in two of these, including The President Has Come to See You, and five of the plays have already been staged.
