Sanskrit varsity syndicate war gets political colour
Differences between syndicate members are prolonging a decision on choosing the standing counsel of the Sanskrit University.
According to sources, the last syndicate meeting held on March 29, could not decide on the nominee due to the differences between Congr-ess and IUML nominees.
March 29 syndicate meeting decided to remove the incumbent standing counsel, P.C. Sasidharan, a nominee of the previous LDF-controlled syndicate, from the post.
Congress syndicate members have come forward with the name of Arun P.Varghese, an advocate in the Kerala High Co-urt in his place.
The Mus-lim League syndicate members are keen that Muha-mmed Yusuf, a relatively senior advocate in the High Court should be posted.
With a consensus eluding, the syndicate is thinking of posting both as standing counsels and dividing portfolios among them.
The plan is to give administration and service matters to Arun and finance and exam related matters to Mohammed.
The League nominees are not happy about this compromise formula as 90 per cent of the cases coming up from the varsity pertain to administration and service matters.
The Kerala Congress (M) nominee in the syndicate is playing his cards close to his chest.
Meanwhile, the Congress nominee in the syndicate, Prashanth Kumar, said there exists no difference of opinion with regard to the appointment of counsel.
