‘We support Capt. Kalia’s family in plea for justice’
Chief of Army Staff, General Bikram Singh on Thursday extended support to the bereaved family of Captain Saurabh Kalia, who was killed during the Kargil war after being allegedly subjected to brutal torture by Pakistani Army in 1999.
General Singh made the statement while interacting with the media on the sidelines of the Passing Out Parade of the 123rd course of the National Defence Academy at Kadakwasla on Thursday.
“We will completely support the parents of Captain Kalia for justice,” said the Army chief.
General Singh further said, “He was a very brave officer and during the Kargil War, in the line of duty, he made the ultimate sacrifice in the best traditions of the armed forces. In our correspondence, we have already stated our concerns to the ministry of defence, as well as to the National Human Rights Commission.”
For the last 13 years, father of the slain soldier, Dr N.K. Kalia has been running from pillar to post to get justice. He has moved the Supreme Court that the Centre’s home and external affair’s ministries should take up Captain Kalia’s case to the International Court of Justice in exposing the violation of Geneva Convention. He has also sought an apology from the Pakistani government.
