Sheila, minister in CWG spat
Differences between Delhi finance minister A.K. Walia and chief minister Sheila Dikshit over the latter allegedly promoting her MP son Sandeep Dikshit now threatens to derail a Commonwealth Games “branding” campaign, with the Games just over two months away.
Dr Walia recently walked out of a meeting to finalise Games-related ads to be carried by Delhi Metro when he found Mr Dikshit’s photograph had been inserted in them. This was not there in the initial draft of the ad.
This is not the first time Dr Walia has protested in this way: sources noted he had walked out of another meeting in September 2009 over Mr Dikshit being projected in DMRC ads for the launch of its Yamuna Bank-Noida line.
No final decision could be taken at the meeting earlier this month following the walkout by the minister. Dr Walia has had differences of opinion with the chief minister on several issues over the years.
