
Raja will not step down: Karunanidhi
New Delhi, May 2: DMK supremo and Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi, a key UPA ally, arrived here Sunday for the first time since the UPA-2 government took office last May last year. He gave a clear indication that telecom minister A. Raja would stay on in his post, as he virtually rejected Opposition demands for the minister’s resignation following the 2G spectrum allocation controversy.
Tenure limits for Kalmadi, others
New Delhi, May 2: The government, to curtail the autocratic rule of politicians over national sports federations, issued a notification on Sunday limiting the tenures of office-bearers of these bodies.
The sports ministry’s action will affect Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi, who has been in the post since 1996, with his fifth term due to end in 2012, and many others.
