5 Federations, 1 state association support Randhir

Randhir Singh today received support in his fight for the post of president of the Indian Olympic Association in the upcoming elections with five National Sports Federations and one state Olympic Association backing him for the top job.

The Sports Federations and the state Association wrote letters to Randhir Singh, promising him support and also urged the other Federations and associations to join hands for the November 25 polls.

"We the Sports Federations namely National Rifle Association of India, Lawn Bowling Federation of India, Judo Federation, Kabbaddi Federation, Netball Federation of India urge all National Sports Federations and State Olympic Associations to rise above the factionalism and petty politics to safe guard sports in the country and come openly to support the candidature of Radhir Singh for the post of President of the Indian Olympic Association," the letter said.

"Randhir Singh is a six time Olympian, Arjuna Awardee, International Olympic Committee member, Secretary General of the Olympic Council of Asia comes from the family which has contributed immensely to the development of Olympic movement in India.

"Given his clean image, impeccable reputation and experience as a sportsman and sports administer there can be no other suitable sports personality of such a stature to lead the supreme body of sports in the country. The time has come that we all sports lovers in the country rally behind Randhir Singh and give a much needed clean and dignified image to Sports in the country," he added.

Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) President, Bijoy Koijam also wrote a letter to Randhir Singh, promising their support for his candidature.

"Considering your vast experience in the field of Sports administration as well as a sportsman in the National and International level and yours tireless endeavour for promotion of Olympic movement in the country. The Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) extends its full support to you (Raja Randhir Singh, the present Secretary General of IOA) in the election for the President's post of the Indian Olympic Association to be held on November 25th, 2012," he said.

Randhir Singh is contesting against Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) Chairman Abhay Singh Chautala for the post of the IOA President.
