Action Polo, Jindal Steel post wins
Jindal Steel and Power and Action Polo chalked up wins in the opening round of action in the Seven Islands RMRM Gold Vase eight-goal polo tournament at the Jaipur grounds in the capital on Wednesday.
While Jindals beat Sona Polo by 9 goals to 5, Action Polo got the better of Sahara Warriors in a closely-fought contest by 8 goals to 7½.
In the first game of the day, goals for the winners came as an even spread from all the players in the side.
Simran Shergill led the way with three strikes and was backed up by a brace each from Max Charlton (3rd and 4th chukkers), Naveen Jindal (1st and 2nd chukkers) and Venkatesh Jindal (2nd and 3rd chukkers).
Kuldeep Singh Rathore scored the lone goal for Sona Polo who started with a four-goal handicap.
Angad Kalaan led the way for Action Polo with four goals, three of which were from penalties.
Abhimanyu Pathak scored thrice and Salim Ali once while for the losing side, Samir Suhag got on the scorer’s sheet thrice, and Adhiraj Singh and Akhil Sirohi got two apiece after they started with 1-½ goals on handicap.
It was in fact a four-goal blitz from Action Polo in the final chukker that saw them over the line.
