Action Polo, Jindal in title clash
Action Polo and Jindal Steel and Power will clash in the final of the Seven Islands RM Gold Vase eight-goal polo tournament, the last event of the Equisport Delhi Spring Polo Season at the Jaipur grounds.
In Friday’s final inconsequential league game, Sahara Warriors got the better of ASC, by 13 goals to 4½, as the two finalists had sealed their spots in Thursday’s action with convincing wins.
Sameer Suhag led the way for Sahara Warriors with six goals. Akhil Sirohi (four) and Tarsem Singh (three) were the others on target as ASC were overwhelmed, their only goal coming off the stick of Prithvi Singh Rathore. They received 3½ goals on handicap.
On Thursday, Action Polo beat ASC by 8 goals to 6½ and Jindals Steel and Power routed Sona Polo 13 goals to six. For Action Polo, Abhimanyu Pathak (four goals), Angad Kalaan (two) and Salim Azmi (two) got on the scoresheet while all three of ASC’s field goals came from Vijay Singh, the team starting with 3½ goals on handicap.
Jindals’ were led from the front by Naveen Jindal who chalked up a whopping seven goals, his son Venkatesh getting three. The other strikes came from Simran Shergill (two) and Max Charlton (one), while for Sona Polo, Baljinder Singh and Sunjay J. Kapur scored once, the side starting with a four-goal edge on handicap.
