AP girls show top form

Andhra Pradesh girls were in top form as they posted comfortable wins to enter the third round in the under-19 junior nationals badminton being held at Yanam.

P.V. Sindhu cruised past Rupsa Ghose of West Bengal 21-9, 21-11. Others to sail into the next round include G. Ruthvika Shivani, D. Sudha Kalyani J. Meghana, J.V. Samhitha and R. Leela Lakshmi. Ruthvika ruled over Rashmeet Kaur of Delhi 21-12, 21-7. Sudha proved her mettle as she came from one set down to beat Kaberi Phukon of Assam 17-21, 21-18, 21-13.

Meanwhile, Samhitha coasted past Tandel Rini of Gujarat 21-13, 21-11 and Leela crushed Moumita Talukdar of Assam in straight sets 21-13, 21-10.

In the first round of the boys category, B. Venkatesh of Andhra Pradesh humbled Ajay Kaith of Himachal Pradesh 21-2, 21-6. Venkatesh’s statemate K. Sriteja too cruised into the second round with a 21-12, 21-13 win over Ribya Jokom from Arunachal Pradesh. A. Vishal Dev Reddy of AP prevailed over Rajas Jawalkar of Karnataka in three games 19-21, 21-6, 21-9.
