AYN’s Jasvir calls shots on Day One
Jasvir Singh of Army Yachting Node, Mumbai, was in his element as he dominated Day One of the Laser National Sailing Championships at the Hussainsagar lake here on Thursday.
In Race One of the Laser Standard category, Jasvir’s main challenger and fellow AYN sailor Gajender Singh rode an early headwind to victory, just ahead of Jasvir. AYN’s Dharmender Singh finished third to make it a podium sweep for the Mumbai side.
However, Jasvir then put himself on top the leaderboard by winning the second race. In a further boost to his title chances, both Dharmender and Gajinder failed to make the top three. AYN’s K.K. Pandey finished second while Naveen Kumar came third.
Later, Jasvir pulled ahead of the rest of the pack by winning Race Three of the category. EME Sailing Association’s B.K. Rout finished second, breaking the monopoly of the Army Yachting Node. AYN’s Gitesh came third.
In the morning, aided by a monsoon wind that measured an average 22 knots, Gaurav Randhawa defeated defending champion B. Mahopatra to win Race One of the Radial class. Mahopatra finished second while Dharmender came third.
However, Gaurav’s superb show was restricted only to Race One, with Race Two and Three witnessing the dominance of Sharif Khan.
