Belgaum boys skate into record books
They skated into world records with ease.
Twenty four Belgaum boys, all below 18, joined 56 other skaters from around the country to set new records in non-stop speed skating at an international event here on Monday.
Beating the earlier world record of 24 hours, 14 minutes and 3 seconds for speed skating over 410 kms set by the skaters of Singapore Roller Sports , the young Indian skaters seemed to fly over 560 kms in 17 hours.
They also set a new record of speed skating for 31 hours non-stop beginning 11.25 am on Sunday. International skating referees Mayne Chow from Hongkong and Pablow and Marcello from Brazil who represented the Federation of International Roller Sports, certified the new records, which were also taken note of by representatives of Limca Book of Records, Ramakrishna and Murthy.
“The Singapore skaters skated 410 km in 24 hours when creating the earlier record . The Indian skaters broke it without any hassles," Jyoti Chindak, president of Shivganga Roller Skating Club of Belgaum, said.
The Indian team continued skating even after breaking one world record and created another by skating over 720 kms in 31 hours. Eleven-year-old Nikhil Chindak from Belgaum, best known for his limbo-skating , said he was not at all tired through both events.
Several of the other boys from various parts of the country who took part in the world class performance, are highly talented skaters as well with several achievements to their credit.
