Bengaluru to groove to ‘Banga beats’
Close on the heels of the Hyderabad Hotshots and the Mumbai Masters is the latest addition to the Indian Badminton League — the Banga Beats.
The $1-million league on Wednesday announced that the Bengaluru franchise has been acquired by the real estate firm BOP Group and will be called ‘Banga Beats.’
“Badminton has brought huge laurels for India in the past. The IBL has the potential to recapture the interest of the masses through achievements of stars like Saina Nehwal, Jwala Gutta, Ashwini Ponnappa and others,” said Amit Mavi, the managing director of the BOP Group.
It was also announced on Wednesday that former Olympian and national Champion U. Vimal Kumar has been appointed the coach of Banga Beats.
