Bikers set off for adventure ride
The 9th edition of the Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey was flagged off in the early hours of Saturday morning by Dr Venki Padmanabhan, CEO Royal Enfield from India Gate.
The non-competitive 16 day adventure has 67 riders from across the globe, who will cover a distance of 2,700 kilometres from Delhi to Khardung La (the highest motorable pass in the world) on their Royal Enfield motorcycles.
“This is my second time to India and my first Royal Enfield biking expedition. I am confident. I am fine with the weather conditions but terrain can be a little tricky,” said Yuki from Japan.
Avinash, a local biker was also equally sure of himself, “I am excited, let’s see how it goes. I am not very sure about the terrain.”
The two-week challenge takes the riders and their bikes through the beautiful landscape of the Himalayas but in return they will have to however tackle terrain which includes mud, snow often coupled with heavy rains and landslides.
“I would advise the bikers to be very responsible. It is not only a check on their physical strength but also on their mental attitude,” said Padmanabhan.
‘I love to hear their accounts on their triumphant return in two weeks. The theme is often about transformation. Boys come back as men, men come back sages and sages come back as grinning boys,” he added.
