Championship race heats up in nationals
The race for the championship title hots up as the fifth and penultimate round of the JK Tyre national racing championship begins here at the Irungattukottai track this weekend.
Polo Cup title contender Vishnu Prasad would be looking to put his miserable fourth round behind him when he rolls his Volkswagen car out of the garage.
The Chennai boy was docked with a 10-grid position penalty for failing to obey flags and safety car procedures.
Last round saw Vishnu (228 points) losing his top spot to Rahil Noorani (235 points). Vishnu is raring to go this weekend after a promising stint at Polo Cup China where he an impressive finished sixth.
Goa youngster Avdum-ber Hede (225 points) is also in contention for the title with only 10 points between him and the leader Rahil. Oshan (206 points), who missed out on crucial points in second race, is gunning for a top 3 finish in the championship.
Competition is also hotting up in the Formula LGB Swift class. Championship leader R. Deepak is 28 points ahead of his Mars Racing teammate Ameya Walavalkar. TVS Girling’s S. Narendhran is place third.
Elsewhere, veterean T.R. Radha Selvarajan will look resurrect in the Super Saloon category after the fiery driver was done in by mechanical trouble last month, even as V. Raj Virudhan recorded twin victories to take over the lead.
The experienced Radha, however, is just 15 points behind Raj Virudhan (138) with four races over two rounds remaining and the competition between the two is expected to fire up the excitement this race weekend.
Consistency has seen T.S. Diljith dominate the Indian Junior Touring cars segment, and the talented driver will aim to tighten his grip on the championship with two more podium finishes at the weekend.
The fifth round will host a special Polo R Cup race for the veterans of Indian motorsports.
Leelakrishnan, B. Vijaykumar, Radha Selveraj, Akbar Ebrahim, Dalal, Kam-lesh Patel, Khushru Madan and Vicky Chandok will be scorching the track.
