Chandigarh in quarters of women's national hockey

Chandigarh registered their third win in Pool G to book their berth for the quarterfinals of the Hockey India Senior Women's National Championship here Thursday.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Association (MPHA), Railways and Odisha are already in the quarters.

In a high voltage clash of Pool G, Chandigarh defeated Karnataka 3-2. Chandigarh opened their account through Rajini in the eighth minute while Karnataka scored an equaliser in the 34th minute through field goal by Chitra Korakutira.

On the change of ends, Karnataka stepped up the pressure with Kulusmbi Dastagir giving them the lead with a 45th minute strike only to see Reena Khokher putting back Chandigarh back on par in the 59th minute. Rajini then sealed the issue in the 67th minute and Chandigarh managed to nurse the lead to the finish.

In Pool D, Indian Universities easily defeated Jammu & Kashmir 11-0. It was Universities' first win in two matches as Reena, Anjali, Praveen Rana, Ansuli Chaurasiya, Sulekha, Pooja and an own goal paved their way for success while Jammu & Kashmir have lost two matches till now.

Bengal pulled off a fine 9-0 victory over Tripura in a Pool H game. Pupen Cicilia Kujur topped the score list with six goals followed by Sonam Purty (1) and Anjali Soren (1).

In another match of Pool H Uttar Pradesh defeated Delhi 6-0.

In Pool F, Jharkhand registered their second win as they beat Bihar 10-0.

Pool F: Jharkhand 10 (Lawrence Kerketta 2; Binit Xess; Swati Herenj; Shabnam Lakra 2; Anila 2; Punam M. Tete; Sushila Lakra) beat Bihar 0.

Pool G: Chandigarh 3 (Rajni 2; Reena Khokher) beat Karnataka 3 (Chaitra Korakuttira; Kulusmbi Dastagir).

Pool H: Bengal 9 (Pupen Cicilia Kujur 6; Sonam Purty; Anjali Soren 2) beat Tripura 0; Uttar Pradesh 6 (Soni Singh; Kavita Mourya; Deepika Sharma; Pratibha Choudhary; Poonam Giri 2) beat Delhi 0.
