Courting success

Fast, fit, full of enthusiasm and all of 19, this young athlete is raring to go. Jacqueline Rose Kunnath, the daughter of prominent businessman, Thomas Kunnath is one of the most promising professional badminton players. She stands at Rank 12 in the country.

Story so far: She has been into sports from a very young age. “I’ve always liked athletics. I started playing when I was 12-years-old,” says Jacqueline.

It’s the idea of ‘speed’ that really caught her attention. “It’s a fast-paced game, and I’m really fast on field. It’s the quick reflex and movement in the game that really got me into it,” she adds.

She is currently pursuing her BA in Jain College, “I only attend classes when I can. I miss most of them due to practice. I spend at least seven hours every day practicing,” she says.

Into the future: “I want to break into the top five seeds in the women singles and move up a slot among the top 50 in the world,” says this enthusiastic player, who is looking forward to a serious career in sports.

“My father has been associated with sports for many years now. He has always encouraged me,” she adds.

Personal byte: Though she doesn’t have a lot of ‘me time’, this youngster is not complaining. “It’s the passion for the game that keeps me going.

The day I miss training, I’m almost guilty. I’m home-bound, I love being at home. But I do make time and take a break when I can and watch movies with friends,” she adds.

Did you know: She enjoys writing, “And poetry in particular. I also collect stickers, I’ve my own sticker album and also like collecting colourful shoelaces. I’ve loads of them,” she discloses.
