CRPF dominate at Delhi meet
Central Reserve Police Force proved their mettle by sweeping 11 gold medals at the all India Police Championship in the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the capital on Sunday.
CRPF’s medal tally was the highest with Punjab Police coming next with four gold medals and Haryana Police following third with two.
In judo, Captain Ramji Yadav won the gold in the 81 kg men’s category while N. Gomti Chanu, L. Nirupama Devi and Captain Taruna Sharma made the Forces proud by bagging gold in the 57 kg, 63 kg and 78 kg, respectively in the women’s section. A. Anita Chanu and Captain Uma Chauhan also secured silver in the 57 kg and 63 kg, respectively.
Vikram Singh, Rajesh Singh and Tej Singh of CRPF won golds in the 56kg, 62 kg and 77 kg, respectively in weightlifting while Sandhya Rani was the lone woman to clinch gold in the 48 kg section.
Rajesh lifted a total of 244 kg including 112 kg in snatch and 132 kg in jerk while Vikram had a total of 226 kg (101 kg snatch and 125kg jerk ).
Shamsher Singh of CRPF clinched the gold in the 74 kg category of the Wrestling-Greco Roman (men) while Chand Ram was the winner in same category in freestyle. Narender Singh secured the top prize in the 84 kg.
The five day championship was attended by over 1,600 sportspersons from 23 state police forces and seven CAPFs.
