Delhi driver tops field
Delhi driver Amanpreet Ahluwalia (navigator Venu Ramesh) won the Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare Rally four-wheeler class, while Nataraj Rajanna of TVS Racing topped the bikes category in the Extreme Category in Bengaluru on Friday.
Overnight leader Amanpreet won the fifth edition of the Southern rally in his very first attempt, ahead of Suresh Rana and Parminder Thakur by an overall margin of three minutes and 41 seconds.
“It’s my first win down south and that too in my very first attempt. It was a different terrain for me and it’s great to win it in my first year of competition. The win is more so special because I defeated my nearest competitor and good friend of mine Rana for the overall title,” said Amanpreet after his win.
The Dakshin Dare traversed through terrain under the relentless monsoon and was run over five days covering over 2,000 kms.
Amanpreet in a Maruti Suzuki Gypsy finished ahead of Rana (Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara) and Imran Khan/Gagan Vijay (Gypsy). In the bikes category, Nataraj won for the second time ahead of Saratha and Akshay. All three were riding below 260 cc bikes.
In the Endurance category, Kartik Maruti/Shankar Anand, who had been runners up in the second and fourth editions of the Dakshin Dare, led all through the five days to run out winners.
